Easy French Onion Soup Recipe

French Onion Soup Ingredients
8 servings
- 2 large white or red onion, sliced, then cut in half
- 2 tbsp beef base
- 6 cups water
- 1 tsp garlic, chopped
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 c red wine (dry)
Topping Ingredients
- 8 slices toasted bread(crust off)
- 8-slices swiss cheese
French Onion Soup Directions
In large sautee pan, medium high heat, place oil, onions, garlic and white pepper. Saute until onions are caramelized. Then in a large pot, place water, contents of saute pan and wine. Slow boil for about 1 1/2 hours. Stir occasionally.
Have individual bowls (oven proof) and fill 3/4 way with soup. Float toast then Swiss cheese on top. Place under broiler until cheese starts to bubble. Serve.
Note: Makes a great starter when you have guests. A Great Soup for Lunch with Sandwiches or Salad. Nice with London Broil or other beef, chicken, or seafood entree.
